Description
Discover the Spirit of Tolima: A Coffee from Colombia’s Majestic Heart
Colombia is a land of stunning contrasts, from the warmth of two coasts and the depths of the Amazon to the heights of snow-capped mountains and the vibrancy of its urban life. This incredible diversity imbues each region with its own unique character, creating a tapestry of culture and terrain unlike anywhere else.
The Origin: Where Snow-capped Volcanoes Meet High-Quality Soil
Our exceptional coffee is born in the region of Tolima, the third-largest coffee-producing region in Colombia, accounting for a significant 12% of the country’s total output.
Tolima is blessed with the perfect setting for extraordinary coffee:
· Volcanic Riches: High-quality, nutrient-rich soils benefit from the minerals carried down from three majestic, snow-peaked volcanoes.
· Pristine Water: Abundant natural water streams flow from these peaks, with altitudes reaching up to $5,400$ meters above sea level, providing vital nourishment.
· Ideal Elevation: The coffee is grown between $1,400$ and $2,100$ meters above sea level, the prime altitude for developing complex, deep flavour profiles.
The Community: A Testament to Cooperation and Care
This coffee is more than a product; it is the fruit of deep community effort by two inspiring cooperatives: ASOBRIS and El Macizo.
Located in the stunning landscape surrounding the snow-peaked Nevado National Park, the farmers of these cooperatives live in harmony with their environment. Their dedication to the land is clear:
· Organic Commitment: In 2013, the communities chose to pursue organic certification, a reflection of their commitment to sustainable, pure cultivation practices.
· Natural Shade: As part of their natural harmony with the National Park, they practice cross-cultivation, using banana trees to provide essential shade for the delicate coffee plants, naturally enriching the ecosystem.
· Entrepreneurial Spirit: The 42 farmers of ASOBRIS and the 96 farmers of El Macizo, spread across more than 30 villages, have successfully forged strong, independent business relationships by working together. Their spirit of cooperation and entrepreneurship has been the key to their prosperity and the exceptional quality of their beans.
We are honoured to bring you the result of their passion, their labour, and their profound connection to the beautiful land of Tolima.
