For some, coffee can feel like a quick brew in their mug. You open a bag, brew your coffee and a few minutes later there’s a cup in front of you. However, let’s take International Coffee Day as an excuse to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
They say many hands make light work, but when it comes to coffee, many hands make one great cup.
This year’s International Coffee Day carries particular significance, with 1st October officially recognised by the United Nations as International Coffee Day for the first time. The recognition highlights coffee’s contribution to sustainable development and to the livelihoods of more than 125 million people worldwide.
Also, this year one of the aims of International Coffee Day Campaign is to “recognise every hand in the chain” from the farmers growing and harvesting coffee, to those processing, transporting, roasting and brewing.
So today, we’re celebrating every one of them.
