Embodied ESG in the growth & harvest of San Andrés Specialty Coffee
Specialty Coffee Beans from Honduras
Our San Andrés Specialty Coffee Beans offer a unique blend of quality and sustainability. Hailing from the Lempira region of Honduras, these beans represent the pinnacle of organic coffee production. Their certification as organic further enhances their appeal to coffee enthusiasts who value both flavour and environmental stewardship.
Origin and Region
The Lempira region of Honduras, known for its mountainous terrain and favourable climate, provides an ideal setting for coffee cultivation. This region, with altitudes ranging from 1,100 to 1,900 metres above sea level, offers a microclimate that significantly enhances the quality of coffee. The higher elevations allow the beans to develop slowly, resulting in a richer, more complex flavour profile. The combination of fertile soil, ample rainfall, and consistent temperatures creates a perfect environment for growing exceptional coffee.

ASOPROSAN: The Heart of Production
The vision and values of ASOPROSAN, short for Asociación de Productores de Café San Andrés, play a vital role in the cultivation of San Andrés Specialty Coffee Beans. Founded in 2017 by a diverse group of 16 shareholders—comprising 7 women and 9 men—this association has grown significantly over the years. Located in San Andrés within the Lempira region, ASOPROSAN now includes 154 small and medium-sized producers. These producers, belonging to the “Lencas” ethnic group, bring their rich cultural heritage to the coffee-making process, adding a unique touch to every bean they cultivate.
The current membership of ASOPROSAN reflects the association’s commitment to community and inclusivity. This cultural diversity not only enriches the quality of the coffee but also fosters a sense of unity and purpose among the members. Their collective efforts ensure that each batch of San Andrés Coffee Beans meets the highest standards.
Sustainable Practices & Social Impact
One of ASOPROSAN’s primary goals is to promote environmentally friendly coffee production. The association is dedicated to raising awareness about sustainable farming practices among both producers and the general population. By encouraging methods that minimise the use of agrochemicals, ASOPROSAN aims to protect the environment and improve the health of the local community. Additionally, the association focuses on enhancing the standard of living for families in southern Lempira. Through various initiatives and support programmes, ASOPROSAN helps its members achieve better economic stability and a higher quality of life.
The association also fosters a sense of community and cooperation among its members, strengthening social ties and encouraging mutual support.
Coffee Varieties
San Andrés Specialty Coffee Beans incorporates a diverse array of coffee varieties. These include Catuai, Lempira, ICatu, Ovata, IHC 90, and Parainema. Each variety brings its own distinct characteristics to the coffee, contributing to a unique and rich flavour profile. Catuai and Lempira varieties are known for their robust taste and resilience, while ICatu and Ovata offer subtle floral notes. IHC 90 and Parainema, on the other hand, add complexity and depth to the blend. This diverse mix ensures that San Andrés Specialty Coffee Beans cater to a wide range of palates.

Processing Method
The processing method used by ASOPROSAN is integral to the exceptional quality of San Andrés. Employing the washed process, the producers meticulously remove the coffee cherry’s outer layer, then ferment and wash the beans to eliminate any remaining pulp. This method accentuates the coffee’s natural flavours and ensures a clean, crisp cup. The washed process also enhances the beans’ acidity and brightness, making it a preferred choice for those who enjoy a balanced and well-rounded coffee experience.
Cup Profile and Tasting Notes
San Andrés Specialty Coffee Beans are renowned for their distinctive cup profile. The coffee boasts a juicy, round, and smooth body with delightful notes of caramel, nuts, and cocoa. This harmonious blend of flavours creates a satisfying and indulgent drinking experience. Recommended for espresso, these beans produce a rich, full-bodied shot with a velvety crema.
