Description

Introduction

Establish in 1860, Finca Onรก is one of the oldest coffee farms in Guatemala. It is located in the region of San Marcos, at the mouth of the coast north of Coatepeque. Onรก means “refuge of the bees” in the native language.ย

San Marcos is the oldest, wettest, and warmest coffee-producing region in Guatemala. Coffees from this region have delicate floral notes with pronounced acidity and good body. The regionโ€™s high elevation and abundant rainfall, plus the soilโ€™s rich mineral content from centuries of volcanic ash, contributes to the regionโ€™s distinct coffee.

Our Guatemala is aย wonderfully intense and aromatic coffee that envelops the senses. The cup opens with a classic pairing of rich hazelnut and marzipan, which gives way to a surprising and elegant lift of delicate, sun-ripened peach. The single-origin blend is recommended for both filter coffee and espresso.

Aroma & Flavor: A strong, highly aromatic cup defined by a prominent, sweet nuttiness. Initial notes of toasted almond and roasted hazelnut develop into a delicate complexity reminiscent of ripe yellow peach and soft stone fruit.ย

Mouthfeel: Full, round, and satisfyingly creamy.

Finish: A clean and long-lasting sweetness.

An eye on sustainability

The farm is powered by renewable, hydroelectric power with an aim for total energy independence on their farm and wet mill. The farm is also Rainforest Alliance (RFA) certified and all coffees are produced in accordance with RFA criteria.ย

Finca Ona is also invested in the local community. Part of the profits from coffee production at Finca Ona help fund a local school. Additionally, employees of the farm have access to suitable living quarters, education and health services.
