Description

From the Volcanic Highlands of Java

Rooted in over 300 years of coffee-growing history, Indonesian coffee is woven into the country’s rich cultural past. Nestled within the lush plateaus of East Java at elevations between 1,000 and 1,400 metres above sea level, Blawan Estate spans an impressive 1,250 hectares. The estate produces coffees that showcase the remarkable depth and character that have made Indonesian coffees celebrated around the world.

Cultivated from a carefully selected mix of Java Typica, USDA, Kartika, and Catimor varieties, this coffee benefits from the region’s fertile volcanic soils and cool mountain climate. Harvested between May and August, every cherry is handled with precision to preserve the estate’s consistently high standards.

Unlike many traditional Indonesian coffees, which are commonly processed using semi-washed or wet-hulled methods, Blawan Estate follows a meticulous fully washed process. This careful approach begins with an extended fermentation period of approximately 36 hours, allowing the coffee to develop exceptional clarity and balance while preserving its distinctive regional character.

After fermentation, the beans are slowly dried to the ideal moisture content before being meticulously hand-sorted, resulting in the clean and refined profile associated with the estate’s A/WP classification. The fully washed process brings remarkable structure and elegance to the cup, highlighting the craftsmanship behind every stage of production.

In the cup, Blawan Estate reveals delicate tea-like qualities layered with gentle herbal and warming spicy notes. Its sweetness is soft yet persistent, creating a beautifully balanced and refined drinking experience. Smooth, clean, and quietly complex, this coffee offers a distinctive expression of East Java’s volcanic landscape and long-standing coffee tradition.

A coffee rooted in volcanic soil and perfected through generations of craftsmanship.

Anaerobic coffee sounds complicated, but the idea Anaerobic coffee sounds complicated, but the idea behind it is actually pretty simple ☕️

For our Ginger Anaerobic, producer Elmer Restrepo adds natural microorganisms and ginger during the 72-hour fermentation.

The result? A sweet, complex coffee with notes of lemongrass, peach and ginger ale 🍑🫚
