Description
While Bolivia is not as renown for coffee cultivation as its neighbours, it is landlocked on all sides by Peru, Brazil, Argentina and Chile. The main production areas for coffee are the territories of La Paz, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, and El Beni.ย
This selected coffee originates from the Caranavi Province, in La Paz, Bolivia. The region is mountain rich in cloud forests, crystal clear rivers and a high diversity of flora and fauna. Soil is highly fertile and rains are well distributed along the year, guaranteeing good crops. Shade trees take 40% of the farms.
CIAPEC specialise in organising agricultural produce such as coffee, achiote, citrus fruits and curcuma for export markets. The producers emphasise ecologically sustainable practices to favour the environment, hence why this coffee is organic and enjoys a fairtrade certification.
CIAPEC is responsible for the livelihood of around 1000 families in the provence. Coffee has provided a viable income for many generations of producers.ย
